Imagine setting aside $500 a month for Nvidia $NVDA for five years, buying a fixed dollar amount on a schedule, a method called dollar-cost averaging. In our example the buy happens on the first trading day on or after the 9th of each month, from Oct 2021 through Sep 2026 (the first buy lands on Monday, Oct 11, 2021, because Oct 9 was a Saturday): 60 buys, $30,000 in total.

NVDA closed at about $22.69 (split-adjusted) on Oct 21, 2021 and at $214.13 on Oct 16, 2026, a price gain of about 843.6% (about 9 times), or roughly 57% a year compounded (the steady yearly rate that would give the same total gain).

A single $10,000 invested at the Oct 21, 2021 close would have become about $94,360. The 60 monthly buys, $30,000 in total, would have been worth about $153,700 at the Oct 16, 2026 close, about 5.1 times the money put in. Price only: no dividends, fees or taxes, and these are examples, not forecasts.

The highest close of the past 52 weeks was $239.24 on Oct 6, 2026 (the intraday high was $243.37 the same day), so the Oct 16, 2026 close sat about 10.5% below it. The lowest close of the five years was $11.23 on Oct 14, 2022, about 50.5% below the $22.69 start. At about +843.6%, the gain sits about 156 percentage points below the +1,000% line, so a few weeks of trading could move the headline figure.

Caution: past pace rarely continues. Nvidia's Aug 26, 2026 release for the quarter ended Jul 26, 2026 showed revenue up 106% to $96.2 billion and non-GAAP diluted EPS of $2.22, on sustained demand for AI accelerator hardware. The stock still slipped from its highest close of $239.24 on Oct 6, 2026 to $214.13 on Oct 16, 2026, a reminder that prices can pause even when results are strong.
